The Profile of a SoapBox Champion – April Annelli

Every SoapBox client has a network of Champions who are truly rock stars of their community! These peer influencers are active ideators but also encourage others to share their ideas.

Meet April Annelli, one of the best Champions SoapBox has ever seen. She was carefully selected during pre-launch to help Champion her organization’s SoapBox, and she was kind enough to share some of her thoughts and tips for what makes a great Champion.

Why do you think you were selected to be a Champion?

I think I was selected to be a Champion because my peers see me as a leader and a role model. They know I am here to encourage and guide them every day to do the best job they can do.

How should Program Managers best utilize Champions?

Champions should be used to encourage the team to utilize SoapBox. I talk about it in our weekly meetings, encourage reps to put ideas on SoapBox when they come to me with them, and review new ideas as often as I can. Encouraging comments make the team feel like their Champion is truly involved.

Can you give me an idea of how you Champion your SoapBox?

I Champion my SoapBox by reminding my reps what they can accomplish. The best part about all being in the same office is that you can talk about someone’s idea in the break room, and 30 minutes later several new people will have taken a look at it. It’s all word of mouth in our call center!

What excites you about SoapBox?

SoapBox is the one thing we all dream about having at work. A way to express your ideas, and have someone on the other end paying attention and saying “Yes, that is a great idea. We’d love to work with you on implementing that.” It truly makes you feel valued by the company you work for.

Tips for other Champions who might be having a hard time figuring out how to help

If you want to help a user or a team, help them carve out the time to use it. Our users went up a great amount in one day because I gave them huddle time to just use SoapBox. This was a designated 10 minutes of the day to sign in, explore, and understand what I’ve been talking about for weeks.
